Legendary!!

The nice quiet week before was soon forgotten. Tuesday night I went to meet with Mark and Iago at the Moose. It was supposed to be a get together to hear about Dean’s cruise but he was sick so did not come. But now it was Iago’s turn for holidays and he was off to Spain. Anca turned up after she finished work and was nice to catch up.

Wednesday wasn’t feeling too fresh so was a quiet night to rest up before Thursday. Thursday after work I walked around to Ana’s and we caught the train to forum. We bumped into Maart on the way and the 3 of headed to Salon 39 to meet with Morten, Bo and Lars. We ordered some cocktails and then it was time for me to meet the guy outside forum to buy my Metallica ticket. I was so nervous that he would not show up but he rang at 6pm and I bought a ticket from him. Then I ran back to the restaurant to eat some dinner and finish my cocktail. We then walked to forum and bought some beers outside. Ana couldn’t wait and went inside and Maart left and the rest of us bought some t-shirts and then headed in. Mastodon were playing when we went in but only had a few songs left. Then Lamb of God played. Then we watched them quickly change the stage for Metallica. We had a great spot right next to the walkway where the band was going to walk straight past and an uninterrupted view of the stage. The stage was round and in the middle of the building so there was a lot of space. It was an amazing show! The lighting rig was really cool with lights on coffin shapes that moved up and down and guys sitting up in the roof controlling spotlights. They sounded amazing and were so close. Afterwards we held our hands out when they walked past and I touched the singer James Hetfield’s hand. We were on such a high after the awesome show and headed to the Rock for the after party. They had a pretty stooped electro rock band playing which did not make sense after the Metallica party but after they finished the DJs got up and played some cool rock music. I was just about to go home when the extremely good looking guy me and Ana were drooling over at the concert turned up. The others left me talking to him and his friends and I stayed waaay too late. It was disappointing that he lives in Aalborg in Jutland but nice I got the chance to meet him.

James Hetfield sounded amazing!

Friday I slept through my alarm and arrived at work a bit late. It was lucky I was on the late shift though and soon enough work was over and I headed down to the Friday bar. Lars and Maart were there and I guess we were still on a high from the concert as it was midnight by the time I got home!

So Saturday I had a nice sleep in and relaxed at home. I was planning on going to the pub to watch the rugby but instead found it streaming on the net and watched at home. Then I quickly got ready and headed to the train station to make the mission to Veronica’s house. It is far from the centre of the city so took me about an hour to get there. I had taken my book for the journey though so was not bad and found a nice little party going on when I arrived. I was quickly handed some yummy Mexican food and soon got back into the party mood. It was a fun train ride home with everybody. Paulo got into another part of the train though and the door wasn’t working. It looked like he was having fun down there with some young Danish guys so when we stopped at a station I hoped off the train and back on again in his section. Once in the city we headed to Karriere bar and was once again a late night. I fell asleep on the night bus home but luckily I was woken up at Svanemøllen station which is not so far from my place. I have heard horror stories about people waking up hours away from the city.

Michael and Veronica's birthday party.

Sunday there was no time to sleep in either and soon enough Michael and Maart were at my place wanting a shower after they had played football at Fælledparken. We then headed to Valby Park for the Grøn Concert. There were a lot of people there! About 40,000 I think. We found a spot to sit in the middle and could see the bands on both stages. First we heard a Danish rapper LOC played and then a boring band called Kashmir. After that there was a fun old school disco band called Infernal and then we went to the stage that Volbeat were going to play on. It was a nice crowd and we got up close to the stage. A Norwegian guy gave me some Snus to try. Eeeew, it’s like tobacco that you keep tucked in under your top lip. It kinda burnt a little and then started to taste gross so I didn’t keep it there for long. Volbeat played a very nice concert and then we left to catch the train home. I was home just after 9pm so not too late and nice to relax a little before bed. Wow I am glad I had the late shift at work today because last week was massive!

I had a really nice quiet start to the week and am happy to say it continued like that. Wednesday I met with Angela at Sankt Hans Torv. We were going to have some cheap cocktails at the Mexi bar but it was a warm night and there were lots of people out so we got a beer at the 7eleven instead and sat in the square. Angela had been out to a summer house for a couple of days and she was very lucky to be shown a different part of Denmark. I would love to have that experience before I leave. We then biked over to Valhalla to meet with Ana and Phong but it was very quiet on this side of Nørrebro. Angela left to go and pack for Stockholm the next day and me Ana and Phong headed back to Sankt Hans for a few more beers. Phong was leaving to Spain for 2 weeks and was nice to see him before he went.

Thursday morning I woke up with a sore head and achy sore body. When I got to work I just got worse over the day but Michael gave me some Ipren and I felt better for the last hour. Not enough that I was going to go to Quiz night though and sensibly stayed in. Friday I woke up and my throat was even worse. I called in sick to work, took some more Ipren and went back to sleep. I had a nice relaxing day keeping the pain away with Ipren every 4 hours, I love that stuff! Then I walked over to Ana’s for dinner. I was happily surprised at how close we live and Sune and Iona were already there when I got there. Ana had some really yum wine from Romania that smelt and tasted a bit like blood. Sune was too freaked out to drink it but as it was not so alcoholic and quite light (apart from the slightly bloody taste) I really liked it. We had dinner and then watched a movie called awake. It was a nice movie made interesting with an unexpected twist in the middle.

Saturday morning luckily I was feeling better and I put on my All Blacks top and biked over to the Southern Cross for the game against Aussie. Borgar met me there and Kat turned up. She has just moved into an apartment very close to the pub so it is now her local. It was looking like the Aussies were much better players with an early try but somehow we managed to get on top and win 22-16. The three of us then headed to the Irish Rover for big English breakfasts. After that I went home very happy and sleepy after a nice big breakfast and a few beers. I tucked up on my bed and watched the movie The Hangover. This was a very funny movie. Later Ana came over and we thought about going out but I still wasn’t feeling 100% so she left and I watched another movie Twilight. I thought this movie would be a bit too teenagery but it was really nice. Like a Lost Boys for the 21st century with plenty of gorgeous vampires and a lovely love story. I’m now very much looking forward to part two later this year.

Sunday I had a nice sleep in and rang home to talk to James and Mum. I thought about going to some museum or something but the time I was off the phone and showed and laundry done etc it was the afternoon. Instead I invited Nick for dinner and went shopping. I cooked bangers and mash, made all the nicer for the lack of ‘real’ sausages in Denmark and then we headed to the cinema to meet with Ana and Corinne to watch Bruno. I would probably not recommend this movie to anyone unless you really like to be shocked. I am definitely no prude but I was covering my eyes in some parts. Pretty gross!! It had some funny moments as he is very good at acting around unsuspecting people but not as good as Borat.

Well that’s it, I’m all caught up to almost present time except I have to go back and finish the Roskilde saga.

Real lack of pictures this week so here's one I took of a great truck outside work.

Picture from the movie Twilight, makes me feel like a teenager again =)

Where can I get me one of these..?

2 years in Copenhagen

So Monday I woke up and it seemed sooooo quiet! It felt really strange and I didn’t leave the apartment all day except to buy some food. I also could not get over how clean I felt! Just before I went to Roskilde a friend from school lent me his copy of the Sims 3 he had recently bought so I thought that I would try it out. Damn that is an addictive time waster of a game. It takes so long to do anything that I was playing it almost all day. It is a big improvement on the Sims 2 as you can now walk around the whole neighbourhood without having to load every location. It is a lot simpler than Sims 2 also as it is the first part of the game and I’m sure there will be many expansion packs to follow. But it is nice as Sims 2 got a bit too much.

Well that was my relaxing start to what was to become a very hectic week. Tuesday I was back to work. I was still feeling very strange not helped by the fact that at night I would dream I was still at Roskilde. One night I kept waking up and thinking my room was a big tent full of people! After work Tuesday Vytis had called an impromtue goodbye party as he was off back to Lithuania the next day. We met at Nyhavn but it soon started raining with thunder and lightening so we went to the new theatre building which had a ledge to provide shelter. Some nice people had left chairs outside and our little group grew and was a nice night spent catching up over a few beers. It was very sad to say goodbye to Vytis as he had been a good friend and good company since the zombie crawl night.

Some pictures I took on the way to Nyhavn.

Wednesday I had 8am start and was starting to feel tired again. Then straight after work I headed to Sankt Hans Torv to meet with Angela whom has been traveling around Europe. She was staying with a very nice Danish girl and we all headed to Vesterbro to a Vietnamese restaurant called Le Le. It was okay food but expensive for what you could get so much better and less than $10 in Auckland. I then left the girls to go to a jazz concert as I had work at 8am again the next morning.

Thursday I managed to catch a couple of hours sleep after work before meeting Karina, Ana, Sune, Maart and Morten and going to The Rock for the Metal Fest. Phi and Phong’s bank The Omnihil were playing their first ever live show and I was very excited! It was great as everyone turned up to support and I met some of their family. Then they started playing and sounded fantastic. Their dad was in the front rocking with me. He told me he was very proud. I hung around a little after to congratulate them but sensibly headed home not too late.

Phong!!Phi!!

Luckily I had changed to late shift on Friday and it was a long day. We did have a fantastic lunch though as we were going to have a special Friday bar to watch part of the Tour de France and the kitchen produced a very yummy French buffet. After work I went downstairs to have a quiet beer but just as I was going to go home it started raining very hard so I stayed for another. Then I went home and stayed in on a Friday night!!

Saturday I had planned to meet some friends to celebrate living in Denmark for 2 years. Karina came over and I cooked and we had some drinks before heading to the Drop Inn. It was still the jazz festival but the guy promised I wouldn’t have any problems with my friends getting in. It was okay for about an hour but then people started complaining cause they were charging at the door for the concert later that night. So we moved up the road to Galatea but this was too small for all of us and we weren’t even half that was going to come. The Dane’s went to find a bigger bar and by the time they did I was very merry. So I had no idea where this bar was, it was kinda hard to try to explain to people and I gave up and just had fun with who was already with us. After this bar we went to The Dubliner. They had a band playing and it was a fun bar. Then those that were left went to a canal nearby after stopping at the 7eleven for some beers and we sat all morning singing. I feel sorry for any people that may live around there :-P Then some of us caught a taxi to Phong’s. The taxi driver was great, he put all the windows down and turned the music right up and we had party taxi all the way. Karina and Ana went to buy breakfast food but I fell asleep on Phong’s couch waiting for it to be cooked. By the time I woke up Phong had eaten my bacon! It was a really great night.

Me with the tacky Danish souvenirs the girls got me.

Needless to say I did not get up to much on the Sunday =)

ROSKILDE FESTIVAL!!

Okay so I really need to stop procrastinating and start this blog..!

I heard my mobile get a text during the night and thought it must be someone wondering if I was out so ignored it. Then when it went a second time I woke up looked at the clock and jumped. It was 6:15am! I rang the girls and they had been on there way to the station when Anna left her phone at a train station and went back to try to find it. Then I rang the guys and told them to leave as we weren't going to make the train. The girls (and Martin) waited for me at the train station and we caught a train around 7:30am to Roskilde. Halfway there they girls got kicked off the train as they didn't buy a ticket and I continued to Roskilde by myself. When I arrived I finally found the festival buses and took the one going to East entrance. Once there I rang Dean and he said that the fence had been pushed over at 7pm on the Saturday night and there was no where left to camp! They had managed to find a spot up at J though and I headed there. J is supposed to be the quiet camp but as there was no where to go all sorts had ended up there. Luckily there was enough room for my little tent and I quickly put it up next to Iago's.

Once we had the camp set up we went exploring. We went all the way around from West to East and back to camp. The pavilion junior was not going to open until after 12pm so we chilled a bit at camp before heading out again.

Mark eating his first boogie burger of the festival, this would become a daily tradition..

Me enjoying the sun outside my tent.

Dean and Iago enjoying the chilled beers.

The second time we went the pavilion was open and we explored the area. There were already bands playing the pavilion stage and it was so lovely to see Gringo's bar again!

When back at camp I was in contact with Louise and was very happy to discover that out of the whole festival area my Danish friends were camped just next to us!

Danish Camp! (this is later in the festival though, you can tell by the mess!)

My memory of the rest of the day is blurry but I know we had dinner in the pavilion area and then I guess I finally met up with Anna, Gemma and Martin at some stage. They ended up having to camp way over in West but the West centre we soon found out was the place to be at night. There were 2 big parties happening each night. One at the famous Van Damm Camp and the other was a big stage set up with DJ music all night. It was lovely sitting next to the fire pit there. And then for what was going to become one of many nights I was the last one to get back to camp and crawl into my little tent and try to sleep with all the parties going on around us.

To be continued..

let the summer begin!

Well it's been a long time and I so need to catch up..!

The study didn't go as well as I planned. Monday passed without really doing anything. Then Tuesday was such a nice day I took some reading outside to sunbathe and didn't do as much as I should have. Because the next thing it was evening and I was meeting Karina and Ana at Faelledparken to watch the bonfire. The 23rd of June is Sankt Hans aften in Denmark and is a tradition that has been celebrated since the Viking times.

Then the next thing it was Wednesday and exam day aaargh! I woke up and thought I must seriously be in trouble not even making the presentation yet so got to it. It was extremely lucky I got organisation as my subject and I put together a presentation really quick and wrote the synopsis then headed to school. I was very nervous because although I knew the subject very well I get brain freeze in oral exams and can't think straight. It was great to have Barbara as the examiner though and the external examiner was very nice also so I didn't feel nervous at all when it was time for questions. I left the room and then when they called me back they gave me a 12 which is the highest mark you can get!! So I sat in the courtyard and drank the beer I had brought with me then headed home to relax. Not for long though as some of the 4th sememsters had organised a little get together at Nyhavn.

I couldn't stay out too late though as I had work at 8am Thursday. No rest for me as it was straight out of exams and back to work full time over the summer. After work I went to meet with Sune, Paula and Anca and we watched some singer/songwriters perform.

Friday I worked again and then came home to get ready for the graduation party at school. This was a much anticipated party as it was the last one until after summer holidays and a lot of school friends, teachers and friends from outside the school came. I will have to find some suitable photos to upload from the party tomorrow =)

Saturday it was time to get ready for Roskilde!! Anna and Gemma were arriving around 3pm and I met them and Anna's friend Martin at their hostel. We had a beer and then headed to Christiania to meet with Mark and Anca. I showed them around and we watched a bit of a concert as it was a Christiania festival that weekend. Then I had to come home as I hadn't finished packing!! It was after 1am when I finally finished and I set my alarm for 4am so that I could meet the others at the train station at 6am.
