Copenhagen houses

I took these photos when I was in Valby waiting for Borgar to go to the Carlsberg Visitor Centre.

party, party, PARTY!

After a massive weekend a quiet week was in order and it was full of more work, work, school, school.. But we did decide one day we should get out of the classroom and Borgar and I travelled by bus to the Carlsberg visitor centre and had an interesting time reading about the history of beer brewing in Denmark and the Carlsberg and Turborg breweries. At the end we got to the bar and got to smell the different scents that they have in their beers and then choose 2 of their beers. I first had a Carlsberg white beer that was more flavorsome than most white beers and then I had a Jacobsen Blonde that smelt amazing and was very nice. Borgar’s Jacobsen Brown Ale beer smelt like caramel and coffee and was also very yummy. I couldn’t help comparing it to the Heineken experience in Amsterdam which was far more entertaining but the Danish beer was far superior to Heineken. Then we took the bus and metro out to Field’s shopping centre. We had an interesting time shopping in the adult store to use my birthday voucher from work?? And did a bit more shopping and by the time I got home I was pretty damn tired.. shopping is exhausting!

This room holds the most bottle of beers in one room in the world!

We were pretty happy to get to the bar..

Mmmmm beer.

Friday Sune and I had a meeting with the Bellevue Theater to see if we could work on our project with them. It is out by Dyrehaven in Klampenborg and is a beautiful area on the coast north of Copenhagen. The building is designed by the famous Danish architect Arne Jacobsen and is quite old fashioned so we have a lot to work with for the redesign of their website drawing on the beautiful surroundings and the history of the building. After the meeting we headed back to school for a few beers at Friday bar. It was a pretty boring Friday bar and I headed home for a bit before getting dressed up all 80’s and heading over to Karina’s. There her, Louise, Maart and Phong and me all got more eightified and walked to Anca and Mark’s for their 80’s housewarming party. It was a fun night of tacky music, drinking, dancing and playing football in the hall with balloons.

Friday nights are 80's nights =)

Saturday was nice and relaxing until it was time to get glammed up and bike into town to meet with Mark and some others at Barbarella. I had never been there before but heard a lot about it so was nice to meet and have some dinner there with Mark, Charles and Chris (NZer, Pom and Aussie). Then Morten, Maart, Pirita and some others joined us for drinks and soon it was time to head over to the Rock for the Pirate Party. It was International Talk Like a Pirate Day and the last pirate party at The Rock was so much fun I decided I should check it out again. There were people dressed up but not as much as the last party but it was a fun night and was getting light by the time I biked home!

Uh oh! Looks like Charles has got something against pirates..

the visit that never happened..

Well it was a very quiet week. I was preparing for my first visitor since my Mum stayed last year and the first in my little apartment. So I was a good girl and went to work, school, the gym and then shopped and cleaned. By the time Friday came my apartment was very clean and I even baked ANZAC biscuits anticipating some Kiwi company. On Friday morning I arranged to have text messages sent to advise me of the plane's arrival but not much after her expected take off time in London Megan text me to say she had a huge night, was very hung over and missed her plane!

This was disappointing but I had no time to worry as had a busy weekend planned anyway and was able to finish the lesson in Adobe After Effects. Then it was Friday bar and we were having such a good time everyone decided they wouldn't go to the Octoberfest after all so it was just me and Morten catching the train and meeting up with some of the IT guys from Saxo. This time the tent was packed! We tried ordering food 4 times and it never arrived. But it was another night of lots of giant beers, singing and dancing on tables. Afterwards some of the guys went to the Rock but it was straight home to bed for me!

Giant beer!

Busy night at the beer fest.

I'm guessing it was a Danish song.. Morten singing away with Ran and Lars.

Saturday it was time for the long awaited Roskilde Reunion Party. Lucky it was nice weather, I went to school to pick up my bike and then meet Karina on the way to Kongens Have. There was a nice little group there and soon the boys were beer bowling. It was great fun watching them get hammered but it was soon getting dark so we packed up and walked to Gitte's apartment. Then we made the most of her somewhat dodgy music collection and danced and sang till the wee hours.

With Karina and Phong at Gitte's much later.

At somepoint around this time I booked my holiday for next month. I am very much looking forward to getting away from it all and spending 12 days in Scotland and Ireland. I first found this 6 day castles, ghosts and monsters tour in Scotland but then when I tried to find cheap a plane ticket back from Edinburgh I couldn't find any. So I looked at tickets to Dublin and then back to Cph and it was way cheaper. So I also booked a 3 day tour of Southern Ireland. I can't wait to get into the nature!! Laters..

Octoberfest.. in September.. in Copenhagen!!

Monday it was the start of a four week video workshop at school. We were playing around with editing in Adobe Premiere Pro and it is very hard to follow. I followed a bit during the week although I am still perplexed as to how we are studying this when I don’t remember signing up for film school. Sune wasn’t at school so I couldn’t talk to him about working together on our final project but we did on Tuesday and then it was just time to think about what we want to do.

Wednesday after work and the gym I quickly headed to Fælledparken and wandered around the chaos of tents and people trying to find the Saxo Tent at the annual DHL company run. I finally found them and got stuck into the bbq, beer and cheering on the runners. It was really lovely to catch up with people outside of work and far too soon the night was over and it was a quick bike home and into bed. It is quite amazing to me to realize that this is the third time I have been to it!!

The canteen crew put on a great bbq and made sure the beer kept pouring.

Soon it was Friday and we had no Friday bar due to the Danish 1st semester Intro trip (ie, their big boozy weekend). But we were sitting in the chill at room and soon Brennan came in with some beers and Brian and Barbara joined and we had a nice little do-it-youself Friday drinks. We had a plan though and I jumped on my bike to meet the Octoberfest crew at Nørreport. We had a nice little group and soon made our way to Valby Park on the train. It was quite a walk to the party, but soon we saw carnival rides and a big tent. It was not so full but still early and there was a great German band playing great drinking songs so we all ordered giant beers and got into it. It was a great night of singing, dancing on the tables, flirting, eating and drinking and too soon it was 11pm and they were closing. We got a bit lost walking back and jumped in a taxi to town. All I could handle was a coke though and it was on my bike to wobble home.

With Sune on the way to Octoberfest.

I awoke Saturday with a beer hangover.. ugh and to the knowledge that I did not get any phone numbers from the couple of cute guys I had been talking to duh! But no time to worry about that as I had shopping to do and a birthday cake to make. Then I made my way to Lyngby in the grissly rain to Sarah's for a cosy dinner with her, Pirita, Morten and birthday boy Maart.

Happy Birthday Maart!

I was not home too early though and as soon as I woke up it was on the phone to Dad to say "Happy Dad's Day!" and then to Mum but Voip packed a sad and wouldn't connect so didn't get to talk for long or to James. It was probably a good thing though as I had to jump in the shower and be on my bike again to meet with Anca and Mark to hit the Octoberfest party again. We took our bikes on the train this time which was very smart so we could bike to the party from the station. There were not so many people at all there, I guess Danes don't like to go out like that on a Sunday. But we had a few beers and some sausage and then hit the Moose on the way back for a last drink before heading home to relax before Monday.

Mmmmm beer and sausage..

back to school!

First day of school on Monday and it was nice to see everyone but not very interesting. Just a talk from some of our teachers on what will be happening this semester. I wasn’t feeling too tired until I went to work and then that was a hard 3 hours. Tuesday I was a little more rested and we had our first day of presentations from companies that wish us to work on projects with them. Then as usual it was Tuesday bar for the first week of the semester and it was really nice to meet some of the new first semester students. I was having so much fun I didn’t get home until around 10:30pm.

Barbara, Karina and I at Tuesday bar.

Not very eventful for the rest of the week as I was back to my school/work/school/work routine. My library book had to be back on Thursday so it was a wonderful excuse to spend most of my time after work Wednesday trying to finish it. Friday we finished class at 12pm and their was a bbq for the 1st semesters. We waited a respectable amount of time for them to get their lunch and then enjoyed a lovely bbq cooked by the new canteen staff. Then it was home to get ready and make my way to Kastrup for Corinne's leaving party. Her mum cooked some yum food and we had some drinks before heading to school for the Intro party. Nearly everyone I knew had left so I went home quite early and then found out the next day that a whole bunch of our friend's turned up after the Omnihil concert just after I left! Oh well I could use the sleep =)

Corinne with some of her friend's.

Saturday I got busy with laundry and other stuff but I didn't have as much time as I expected and soon was heading over to Phong's for drinks before going to a concert. Ana and some others came over and we had a fun time until it was time to bike into town to Lades. Here we heard Pitch Black and Illdisposed and partied a lot before heading back to Phong's and finally home very late.. or was that very early?? Anyways Sunday I slept a lot and had a nice relaxing day before starting another busy week..
